Less than a week away from the trade deadline, the Suns already made one trade which will definitely help them at the number 2 seed in the western conference. Torrey Craig, although his numbers don't look great, at 2 point, 2 rebounds and an assist a game, he brings a long big body to the team who can guard multiple guys and brings veteran experience to a young team. He has a very high IQ on the game and locks down defenders. This will help them if they look to make a deep playoff run, which they clearly can sitting with one of the top records in the league and number 2 in the west.
I don't think that they will make more trades or signings unless a big steal comes up because of the team's success. Teams who have a lot of success tend to not make a lot of moves during the trade deadline. This is due to the fact that it takes teams a lot of time for players to get used to each other and to learn how to play with one another on the court. Also, it takes a long time for the coaching staff to figure out how to use each player to their best ability within their offense. Due to this, I think getting Torrey Craig is the only move that Phoenix will be making.
If they choose to make more moves within the week, the Suns will only be making big time trades for big time players. This is self explanatory but if you don't know much about basketball then it won't be and I will explain. Big time players make a big time impact. Simply put. Someone like Bradley Beal or Demar Derozan can be the difference between winning and losing a game 7 in the playoffs. It can make a difference between making a game winning shot and not making a game winning shot. Making the western conference finals or the NBA finals. These are big differences when the number 2 team in your respected conference. Coaches get fired, big time players are traded, other players leave, presidents or top executives are fired because of the difference between winning a game 7 or losing it, between making the conference finals and the NBA finals, between winning the finals and losing the finals.
There is a lot on the line for the Sun's going into this deadline simply because regardless of what experts say, this team could be dismantled by the end of the season because they don't think they can be successful. That's why I think the Sun's will keep this core group together because of the consistency and relationship that the players and coaches have with one another on and off the court. We will see how the next week goes with what the Sun's decide to do and what happens with how their season ends.
