Caris Levert recently had successful surgery to remove a cancerous growth on his kidney. In this article we will take a closer look at this type of cancer and his long term health risks as well as the possibility of recurrence.

After being sent to the Pacers in the blockbuster James Harden four team trade a mass on was discovered on Levert's left kidney during a physical evaluation. 

What is  A Kidney?
A kidney is a bean shaped organ that filters toxins from the blood and regulates certain hormone levels including blood pressure stabilization. Most people have two kidneys. 

First off what is Kidney Cancer?
Kidney cancer begins when healthy cells in one or both kidneys change and grow out of control, forming a mass called a renal cortical tumor. A tumor can be malignant, indolent, or benign. A malignant tumor is cancerous, meaning it can grow and spread to other parts of the body. An indolent tumor is also cancerous, but this type of tumor rarely spreads to other parts of the body. A benign tumor means the tumor can grow but will not spread.

There are several types of kidney cancer 

• Renal cell carcinoma. Renal cell carcinoma is the most common type of adult kidney cancer, making up about eighty five percent of diagnoses. This type of cancer develops in the proximal renal tubules that make up the kidney’s filtration system. There are thousands of these tiny filtration units in each kidney. 
  
• Urothelial carcinoma. This is also called transitional cell carcinoma. It accounts for five to ten percent of the kidney cancers diagnosed in adults. Urothelial carcinoma begins in the area of the kidney where urine collects before moving to the bladder, called the renal pelvis. This type of kidney cancer is treated like bladder cancer because both types of cancer begin in the same cells that line the renal pelvis and bladder.
  
• Sarcoma. Sarcoma of the kidney is rare. This type of cancer develops in the soft tissue of the kidney; the thin layer of connective tissue surrounding the kidney, called the capsule; or surrounding fat. Sarcoma of the kidney is usually treated with surgery. However, sarcoma commonly comes back in the kidney area or spreads to other parts of the body. More surgery or chemotherapy may be recommended after the first surgery.
  
• Wilms tumor. Wilms tumor is most common in children and is treated differently from kidney cancer in adults. Wilms tumors make up about one percent of kidney cancers. This type of tumor is more likely to be successfully treated with radiation therapy and chemotherapy than the other types of kidney cancer when combined with surgery. This has resulted in a different approach to treatment.
  
  Fortunately for Levert his form of Kidney cancer renal cell carcinoma was a very non aggressive type with a low recurrence rate so he will likely be fine and cancer free.

​The Dallas Mavericks and Luka Dončić have a reach for big things, including an NBA title. But in modern times, no superstar can reach the throne alone, he also needs top-notch sidekick. Kristaps Porzingis was brought to Texas for this purpose two years ago.

The Latvian has had injury problems throughout his career, nothing different this year. His skill level is still remarkable, but he is far from the constant performances expected of him after moving from the New York Knicks. The tall Porzingis has even more shortcomings in defense, where Dallas already has a lot of problems without him. And because of all the above, the Mavs are flirting with a trade reports Bleacher Report.
"They've definitely checked the market. They're testing the interest because they're aware that it will have to happen someday," an unnamed NBA official told the media about Porzingis' replacement.

Anthony Marshon Davis Jr is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He plays the power forward and center positions. Davis is a eight-time NBA All-Star and has been named to four All-NBA First Teams and four NBA All-Defensive Teams. In his first season with the Lakers, he won an NBA championship in 2020. In this article we will take a look at Davis recent injury and the long term concerns of Achilles injuries.

The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in your body. It stretches from the bones of your heel to your calf muscles. You can feel it: a springy band of tissue at the back of your ankle and above your heel. It lets you point your toes toward the floor and raise up on your tiptoes.
It’s common for this tendon to get injured. It can be mild or moderate and feel like a burning pain or stiffness in that part of your leg. If the pain is severe, your Achilles tendon may be partly or completely torn.
Achilles tendinitis is another type of injury in which some part of your tendon is inflamed. There are two main types of this condition, which affect different parts of your tendon:

•  Noninsertional Achilles tendinitis. Fibers in the middle of your tendon break down, swell, and get thick.
•  Insertional Achilles tendinitis. This affects the lower part of your heel, where your tendon inserts, or goes into, your heel bone. It can cause bone spurs.

As Davis is currently experiencing this can potentially become a lingering or chronic problem. The obvious signs of an Achilles injury are pain and swelling the level is dependent on the severity of the injury. Once hyperextended the Achilles becomes more likely to tear and the results can be devastating.

Achilles Tendon Injury Causes
Achilles tendon injuries are common in people who do things where they quickly speed up, slow down, or pivot, such as:

• Running
• Gymnastics
• Dance
• Football
• Baseball
• Softball
• Basketball

These injuries tend to happen when you start moving suddenly as you push off and lift your foot rather than when you land. For instance, a sprinter might get one at the start of a race as they surge off the starting block. The abrupt action can be too much for the tendon to handle. Men over 30 are especially prone to Achilles tendon injuries.

You can also injure your Achilles tendon if you stress it over and over with high-impact activities. These are known as repetitive stress injuries.
The Calf Strain for Davis is a simple hyperextension of the Calf muscle but the bigger concern is his Achilles. If this becomes a chronic problem an Achilles rupture could have devastating effects.

Will this become a long term problem, only time can tell us as the hopes of Lakers fans hinge on Davis long term health.

Despite the opposition of some of the biggest stars of the North American NBA basketball league, among them was LeBron James, main heads of the league decided to hold the All-Star game this year as well.
It will be held in Atlanta on March 7th, which was confirmed today (02/19/2021). Team captains will be LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Luka Dončić will be in James' team this year as well.

“The NBA All-Star and Atlanta will continue our annual tradition of celebrating basketball and the league’s best players in front of a global audience,” NBA league commissioner Adam Silver wrote in a press release.
He added that with the jubilee 70th All-Star Game, they will also raise funds to eliminate the consequences of the corona pandemic of the most vulnerable groups. The NBA League, along with the Players Union (NBPA), will donate more than $ 2.5 million to historic black universities and to the purpose of increasing equality of all in access to the covid-19 vaccine.

It was originally supposed to be an All-Star Game in Indianapolis, but the NBA changed the schedule due to a new coronavirus.
“I have absolutely no energy and no will to attend the All-Star this year,” James said this month. "I don't even understand why we have a All-Star Game ... It is still a wild corona pandemic. And now we are going to bring the whole league to one city? Apparently, no one is thinking about the pandemic. You see, I am not excited about it. Of course, I will play if I am selected. I will be there physically, but not mentally," added the league's first star.

The format of the match will remain the same as last year, when Slovenian Luka Dončić played an important role, appearing in both the rising star match and the central All-Star match. Also, this year, fans voted him in the top five of the All-Star Game alongside James.
James and Durant are captains of the Western and Eastern Conference teams, respectively, who will select members of the starting five from this year's record five basketball players born outside the USA: Greek Giannis Antetokounmp (Milwaukee), Slovenian Dončić (Dallas), Cameroonian Joel Embiid (Philadelphia) Nikola Jokić (Denver) and Australian-born American Kyrie Irving (Brooklyn).

In the pool of basketball players for the top five are also American's Stephen Curry (Golden State), Kawhi Leonard (LA Clippers) and league top scorer Bradley Beal (Washington).
Definitely an impressive team roster for sure..
 
 
 
 

An updated look at Bronny James and his pro potential. We took a look at Bronny James also known as Lebron James Jr and his brother Bryce previously  now we will do separate profiles on both brothers.
For those who are new to the basketball world or may have been kidnapped and kept in a bunker (no judgment intended). Bronny James aka Lebron James Jr is the son of Lebron James a top five all time great. There was also some controversy with a video of him smoking marijuana that trended social media. However that should not effect his draft stock.

Bronny is a 6’2” guard at Sierra Canyon right now according to 247 Sports. Duke looks like the favorite to sign him. His skillset is more SG but showcases a great feel for the game, high basketball IQ and excellent defensive chops and court vision. He’s a good athlete and his instincts are strong enough to compensate for not being an elite one.  He has a nice pull up jumper and fluid shooting mechanics. If he grows a bit or develops his PG skills a little more, he could easily be a star at the next level. We have him ranked as a mid to late lottery pick currently but he could develop into a top five prospect for the 2023 or 2024 NBA draft.

Lebron James other son Bryce James is 5’2” combo guard with less hype than his big brother. As we profiled both brothers here www.basketballrehab.com/home/nba-scouting-profile-lebron-james-jr-and-bryce-james  They each have their own distinct strengths and weaknesses.
 
Bryce has some clear strengths, he is an excellent three point shooter, with a strong handle and the same strong basketball IQ as his brother and father.
He’s only 12 so his lack of size and advanced skill are not deal breakers yet.
His development and any physical growth will tell us a lot about his future potential as a basketball player. We won’t know probably for a couple more years what Bryce James ceiling might look like. Being the son of Lebron  James is a good start.
